CHILD-PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY
Dr. Graham is one of the only clinicians in the area trained specifically in working with young children (below 5 years) and their caregivers using Child-Parent Psychotherapy to address parent-child relationship problems, impaired attachment, and behavioral problems. Through Dr. Graham's infant-mental health training, she has learned to help children who have experienced trauma including divorce, loss of a loved one, witnessing domestic abuse, or experiencing abuse in early childhood. Through talk and play, Dr. Graham helps children express their feelings in appropriate ways and helps their parent learn to meet their child's needs.
CHILD PLAY THERAPY
For young children, play therapy is a developmentally-appropriate way for the child to express their thoughts and feelings. In play therapy, toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language. Through talk and play, Dr. Graham will help your child learn healthy ways to express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and process their experiences in a safe and meaningful way.
PARENTING SUPPORT
Parenting is one of the most rewarding but also most challenging jobs. Children depend on their parents to learn appropriate social skills, emotion regulation skills, and appropriate behaviors which will set the stage for their future relationships. If you are feeling overwhelmed as a parent or faced with a particularly challenging situation, Dr. Graham offers individualized parent sessions to help you regain confidence in parenting. Instruction commonly covers setting realistic expectations, defining clear house rules, and providing consistent appropriate consequences for misbehavior, techniques essential in regaining control in parenting as well as positive parenting techniques like positive reinforcement. Dr. Graham specializes in providing support around parenting neurodivergent children and may assist parents in better understanding and supporting their Autistic child. Dr. Graham is also one of the only SPACE providers in the state. Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related problems.
PSYCHOTHERAPY
The relationship between the therapist and client is essential in helping the client heal, and Dr. Graham strives to create a comfortable, natural environment in which your child/adolescent feels comfortable talking about their insecurities and fears. Â By providing an atmosphere of respect and empathy for your child's unique life experiences and struggles, Dr. Graham helps to build on positive thinking, healthy self-esteem, and a range of coping skills to help your child manage life's challenges and succeed.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT
During the initial visit, Dr. Graham will meet with the caregiver and collect background information (e.g., developmental, family, medical, academic, and social-emotional history) as well as collect information on your current concerns with your child's behavior. Dr. Graham will use this information to form a case conceptualization in which she will outline your child's strengths and weaknesses and create an individualized evaluation/treatment plan for your child.

WHAT IS A PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT?
A Psychological Assessment is a comprehensive examination of your child's strengths and weaknesses and includes multiple areas of functioning including cognitive, academic, behavioral, and social-emotional functioning. Dr. Graham will first conduct a clinical interview with caregivers and investigate your concerns as well as get a better understanding of your child's developmental, family, medical, and academic history. Next, Dr. Graham will administer assessment measures to your child to assess their intellectual, academic, behavioral, and social-emotional functioning. Dr. Graham will collaborate with your child's teachers and other practitioners (if applicable) in order to provide an accurate snapshot of their functioning in the home and school environments. Dr. Graham will then create a psycho-educational report which explains your child's testing results, includes diagnoses (if applicable), and provides specific recommendations for home and school settings in order to help your child succeed.
HOW CAN MY CHILD BENEFIT FROM A PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT?
Psychological Assessments provide a parent with a better understanding of your child's strengths and weaknesses and help parents to understand what steps they can take to help their child succeed. Psychological Assessments may also be used to guide Individual Education Programs (IEPs) at school, establish academic accommodations for children in classroom or standardized testing environments, or attest to your child's abilities for the purposes of school entrance examinations.
